Cabling

Does your system suffer from reliability problems?  If your cabling look like a rat’s nest (and many do) or was installed more than 3 years ago you probably need to consider having it checked to certify its performance to the latest specifications. This will ensure you are gaining the performance benefits of any newer hardware that may have been added since the cabling was installed. Busted Networks can undertake this test and certification to ensure that your cabling is reliable and capable of supporting the performance of the network cards fitted to new PC’s. It’s no longer sufficient to be told the network works! the question to ask is, to what standard?

If your cabling is the older BNC style you should consider upgrading to modern CAT 5 cabling. CAT 5 does not suffer from the many shortcomings of BNC and is less prone to one segment taking the complete network down. If modern switching and routing equipment is required in your network then CAT 5 will be essential as this type of equipment is only compatible with this cabling standards.

The science of Data Communications is changing at a phenomenal rate. End users, applications constantly demand greater bandwidth from the network and users faster response times. The structured integration of the latest technology to provide faster and more reliable communication has never been more important. Busted Networks has evolved to meet this growing need, and are now specialists in the field of computer networking, cabling system optimisation and support, in fact all aspects of IT.

Busted Networks provide quality cable installations, installed, terminated and tested by trained staff. From the most basic RS232 to a comprehensive structured cabling and blown optical fibre system, we are certain to meet your technical and more importantly business requirements.

Our long association with the industry has seen many changes in standards and technology; as a result we are able to support any existing cable installation as well as being able to offer the most up to date cable solutions.

Quality cabling installations, combined with our ability to install network hardware from some of the worlds leading manufacturers, will guarantee the most progressive Network solution available at the best possible prices.

Our ability to integrate the latest Industry standards with the most up to date technology will ensure our customer’s most stringent requirements are met.
When designing your network we not only take into account your budget, workplace, network and computer requirements, we consider the building requirements such as Age, Design, Lease Duration and listed building status. We also take into account your staff needs such as hours of working, disruption to business, noise levels and health and safety legislation.
Any proposal we produce, will be written for you alone, designed to meet the requirements of your business, its staff its budgets and it’s future plans.

Twisted Pair (Cat 5) vs Coax.

A coaxial network is created by joining sections of 50 Ohm coaxial cable with T-pieces to form a long segment. The two free ends of the segment are terminated with 50 ohm end caps and each PC is connected using T-pieces. Network information is sent along the segment, so that it reaches all the computers, printers etc.

The whole coaxial segment must remain intact for the network to operate. This means that if a section of cable is damaged or disconnected, the network is broken, making it unusable. Making changes to the network (such as adding new PCs) involves breaking the segment, which makes the network temporarily unusable.

Coaxial cable can only be used for Ethernet. Some of the limitations are

Maximum segment length   185M
Maximum number of users/devices 52
Maximum number of repeaters/hubs between any 2 connections 3

Twisted Pair Cable

Twisted pair cabling is replacing coaxial cabling. It is now more commonly used because it is easier to use and more flexible than coaxial cable. As a result, the majority of Ethernet network equipment today has twisted pair connections.

A Twisted pair cable is very flexible and has easy-to-use connectors that simply connect into the ports on the devices and network equipment. If one of the twisted pair cables is damaged or disconnected, only that specific connection is broken; the rest of the network remains operational. Making changes to the network, such as adding new PCs,  is easy and it can be done without affecting other devices on the network.
